Art of Junk

The art of recycling

Project Themes

  • Environment and Globalisation

  • Recycling

  • Art and Expression

  • Concepts of Stewardship and accountability

The Project:

  • The project is  aimed at working with young people from 11 through 19.

  • To engage and inspire the learners in looking at recycling and the critical role it plays in society.

  • Consider motivations for recycling looking at this from a variety of cultural religious perspectives.

  • Introduce ‘value’ to the notion of ‘junk’, something seen as having no value

  • Through art utilising the creativity and energy  that young people can bring to tasks to create sculptures that can be either kept by young people or ‘gifted’ to place of their choice.

The final stage of the project is to photograph their sculptures and from the photographs design posters promoting recycling using Adobe Photoshop.

Testimonials & Workshop Feedback

"I just wanted to say that the students enjoyed the workshops very much and gained a lot from the experience. In particular, as we are working with young people with emotional and behaviour disorders, the team-working and decision making aspects of the exercise were particularly relevant to the type of personal development work we tend to focus on. On behalf of the students and staff at Rightrack, thank you very much for the time and effort you put into making these workshops possible."

Hassain Al Hassain - Project Manager of Righttrack: Positive Alternative Education

"The art of junk workshop was alot more than we expected. It was well organised and explored in different ways how junk can be recycled but used as an art. The art pieces created was fab from the ideas of the artist. The young people really enjoyed themselves all with positive feedback. This workshop aims and does what it says, if not more!!"
