"Creating safe spaces for Muslim young people to explore personal,
social, spiritual and political choices"

By Ameena Zameer Hanif

My name is Ameena Zameer Hanif. I am a primary school teacher and have three special children, Bilal, Hajra and Raihaan.

I first began writing poetry when I was sixteen; going through adolescene was a troubling time where many questions I asked myself, I simply could not answer. So I quickly found writing to be a therepeutic means of exploring my identity and my place amongst the world. In particular, many aspects of culture are challenged from drugs to domestic violence; and I feel that my main aim is to correct misinterpretations of Islam and to explore topics of inequality.

Ultimately I hope to reflect the many complex issues faced by the youth through the mirror of my poetry and this is emphasised through the different layout and fonts that I employ.
